TN turning into ‘safe haven’ for terror elements: BJP

The Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday accused the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government of allowing the State to become a “safe haven” for terror elements, alleging a serious deterioration in law and order.

State BJP president Nainar Nagenthran claimed that recent arrests of suspected illegal immigrants with alleged links to extremist activities point to glaring security lapses. Referring to the detention of Bangladeshi nationals in parts of Tamil Nadu, he said such incidents raise concerns over internal security and the State government’s vigilance.

Nagenthran alleged that repeated instances of arrests in industrial hubs such as Tiruppur and Coimbatore indicate administrative negligence. He charged the DMK government with failing to prioritise national security and urged it to take stringent measures to identify and eliminate unlawful elements operating within the State.

Echoing similar concerns, senior BJP leader K Annamalai criticized the State administration, alleging that governance has weakened under the present dispensation. He claimed that Tamil Nadu, once considered peaceful, is witnessing growing activity by anti-social and criminal networks.

The sharp remarks come amid intensifying political exchanges ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, with the BJP stepping up its attacks on the DMK government over issues of security and governance.
