TVK cadres urge Vijay to contest from Perambur

A resolution urging actor-turned-politician Vijay, president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, to contest the 2026 Assembly election from the Perambur constituency was formally adopted at the party’s workers’ meeting on Sunday. The proposal was moved by TVK’s general secretary for election campaign management, Aadhav Arjuna, during a gathering of party functionaries in Perambur. Expressing confidence in the leadership’s backing, he said the resolution would be endorsed by general secretary N. Anand — a stance that was later affirmed during the meeting.
Aadhav Arjuna cited Vijay’s earlier statement that he would prefer to contest from a constituency lacking in development. “If that is the benchmark, then Perambur fits the bill,” he said, drawing loud applause from cadres.
Earlier speculation had suggested that Vijay might choose to enter the electoral fray from Velachery, Virugambakkam or Tiruchy East. However, Sunday’s development has now brought Perambur into the spotlight.
Seconding the resolution, Anand highlighted the party’s strong organisational base in the constituency. “Perambur has one of the most structured grassroots networks in the State. We have 1,810 office-bearers and 40,000 members here. We fully endorse this resolution,” he said.
He added that similar enthusiasm was visible across all 234 Assembly constituencies and assured party workers that their sentiments would be conveyed to Vijay.
