India revamps Davis Cup squad, Drops Sriram Balaji

adminBy adminDecember 26, 2025Updated:January 3, 2026No Comments1 Min Read
India’s Davis Cup team has made a strategic change ahead of the 2026 Davis Cup Qualifiers, with N Sriram Balaji being left out of the squad named for the first‑round tie against the Netherlands in Bengaluru in February. The decision reflects a shift in focus toward building a team for the future, according to selectors.
Balaji, known for his role as a doubles specialist and an experienced member of India’s Davis Cup line‑ups, has been replaced by Karan Singh in the squad, edging out another young player, Aryan Shah. The selectors’ move suggests an emphasis on nurturing emerging talent as India prepares to face a strong Netherlands side later this season.
Despite the omission, team captain Rohit Rajpal has indicated that Balaji remains a valued player and could be considered for future ties, with decisions based on the team’s specific needs in doubles combinations. Rajpal highlighted the importance of pairing players who fit strategic roles, such as deuce‑court expertise in doubles play.
India’s tie against the Netherlands in February 2026 marks the beginning of a crucial Davis Cup campaign at home, and the revised squad will aim to build momentum and competitive strength in the qualifiers.
