Police have arrested the driver of a State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) bus in connection with the horrific road accident in Cuddalore district that claimed nine lives and left several others injured. The accident occurred near Ezhuthur on the Chennai–Tiruchy National Highway when the bus reportedly lost control and rammed into two cars coming from the opposite direction.
According to police, the bus, travelling from Tiruchirappalli to Chennai, is said to have crossed the road median before colliding with the vehicles, leading to the death of nine occupants, including women and a child. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Following preliminary investigation, the bus driver was taken into custody on charges of rash and negligent driving. Traffic was disrupted for some time on the busy highway as rescue teams and police personnel carried out relief operations.
