Strong NDA will take shape in TN after Pongal: Nainar

BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagendran has said that a strong National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will be formed in Tamil Nadu after Pongal, expressing confidence that the alliance will emerge as a formidable force ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.

He made the remarks while addressing party workers during his campaign tour in Krishnagiri district.

Nagendran, who is undertaking the statewide “Tamilagam Thalai Nimir Tamilan” outreach programme, spoke at a public meeting in the Roundana area. Marking his 42nd district visit under the campaign, he highlighted what he called the achievements of the NDA at the national level and said people in Tamil Nadu were looking forward to change and “good governance.”

Launching a sharp attack on the DMK government, the BJP state chief accused it of failing to fulfil electoral promises and claimed that several sections, including nurses and government employees, were forced to protest for their demands. He alleged that the State’s 100-day employment scheme benefitted only those loyal to the ruling party, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expanded similar schemes to 125 days to support the poor.

Nagendran further criticised the DMK for what he termed as “fake governance,” alleging an increase in issues like drug abuse and sexual crimes. He also referred to the DMK’s new manifesto committee led by Kanimozhi, saying it was an admission that earlier promises had not been kept.

Stating that Tamil Nadu’s key development projects receive up to 60 per cent funding support from the Union Government, Nagendran said the BJP-led NDA had extended several welfare schemes across the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.

He argued that only a strong NDA in Tamil Nadu could ensure better administration and protection from social evils.

Nagendran said political developments would gain momentum after Pongal. His remarks come amid ongoing political discussions, with parties such as PMK, DMDK and AMMK being reportedly in talks, and expectations over Prime Minister
